Myth 1: You can ignore a leaky faucet.
So, your faucet drips? Big deal, right? Well, even a slow leak can turn into a big deal. What will it cost you? On average, household leaks account for more than 10,000 gallons of wasted water every year. That’s 270 loads of laundry. That slow, leaky faucet will affect your water bill, so if you notice your faucet leaking, get it fixed sooner rather than later.
Myth 2: Toilet Bowl Tablets w/ Bleach Clean Toilets
Bleach in a toilet bowl? All good. Tablets that contain bleach that just sit in your toilet? No good. These tablets are destructive and will destroy part of your toilets in as fast as six months. A good rule of thumb is to not let bleach sit in your toilet for more than 10 minutes.
Myth 3: Grease + Boiling Water = Clear Pipes
Grease coats your pipes and makes clogs far more likely to happen. In fact, boiling water does absolutely nothing to break down the grease as it goes through your pipes. You should always throw grease away in the trash.
Myth 4: You can flush most bathroom paper products
While it’s well known that you shouldn’t flush things like tampons or other feminine products down the toilet, you shouldn’t be flushing anything besides toilet paper. Even products marked as “flushable wipes” shouldn’t go down your toilet. Regardless of if your home is on a private septic tank or public sewer, you shouldn’t be flushing anything besides toilet paper.
