Buffalo Grove, IL HVAC, Plumbing and Electric

History

The area that would become Buffalo Grove was settled during the early and middle decades of the 19th century. Most of the area’s founding families had either received land claims from the federal government or intended to profit from rapidly rising local land prices. During this period, the region remained primarily agricultural. In fact, it remained this way until the fourth decade of the 20th century. As Chicago’s population expanded outward, new thoroughfares like U.S. Highway 45 brought travelers into the area and dramatically reduced commute times to the city. The post-World War II housing boom contributed to the city’s expansion as well. By the 1980s, Buffalo Grove had largely been built out with a mixture of residential, industrial and commercial developments.

Geography

By road, Buffalo Grove sits about 30 miles northwest of Chicago. Although U.S. Highway 45 still runs through the town, it’s now served by a number of other major thoroughfares like I-290, Illinois Highway 83 and Metra’s North Central Line. Physically, Buffalo Grove’s gently rolling landscape consists of medium-density housing subdivisions, lower-density neighborhoods and centrally located commercial districts. Major protected areas like Buffalo Creek Forest Preserve and Potawatomi Woods sit just outside its borders and provide residents with a look at the region’s old-line forests and prairies.

Population and Demographics

As of the most recent U.S. Census survey, Buffalo Grove housed about 42,000 permanent residents. Much of the city’s population consists of families with school-age children and working-age parents. Indeed, Buffalo Grove is a major source of kids for the local school districts. Meanwhile, many of its adult residents commute to Chicago via the town’s Metra line or work at one of the major business parks in nearby Wheeling, Mount Prospect or Northbrook. Despite its family-friendliness, Buffalo Grove is home to plenty of second homeowners who live in the area during the summer and travel further south for the winter months.

Things to Do in Buffalo Grove, Illinois

Buffalo Grove offers plenty of recreational and cultural opportunities for its residents and visitors. The city’s own Raupp Museum features an interpretive walking path that offers insights into Buffalo Grove’s early history and is extremely popular with visiting school groups. For kids and adults who want to take in a musical or theatrical performance, the Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Arts Festival offers a wide range of contributions from local and national artists. In the late summer, the carnival-like Buffalo Grove Days offers amusement rides for kids and a massive beer garden for adults. Shoppers can satisfy their craving for high-end retail goods at the centrally located Buffalo Grove Town Center.

Climate and Weather

Buffalo Grove enjoys a semi-humid continental climate that features sharp seasonal contrasts and generally pleasant weather. During the winter, cold snaps that can be accompanied by snow and ice are interrupted by bouts of sunny, mild weather that often last for days. The growing season generally begins by the end of April, and the region’s months-long summer is characterized by long, mild days and the occasional thundershower. During the fall, crisp nights offset pleasant, breezy days that encourage residents to get out and experience the changing leaves.

Today I had a lot of miscellaneous work done to get my house ready to sell. Dan was prompt, did all the work that I asked for. Explained how the wiring in my house worked in several areas. Noticed I also needed to get a plumber in and set up for someone to give me an estimate this afternoon.

Our water softener, which we never used anyway, malfunctioned. A leak resulted, flooded the lower level, making the carpets quite wet. BD came out next day, we had turned off water to stop the leak. The had to remove the old WS unit, reroute the tubing, and while the carpet may well have to be replaced--it could have a been a lot worse. WE MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN HOME WHEN THIS LEAK HAPPENED. Thanks BD.

Raudel was both effective and efficient while being friendly. The home office kept me up to date with time estimates. Multiple issues corrected. I suggest that personal conversations on a mobile phone while working do not project a fully professional image - that should not happen.
