Wonder Woman - Algonquin, IL
Jesus was thorough and explained why the clog was occurring. The last plumber used white seal instead of clear seal which made the floor look like toothpaste was spread around the bottom of the toilet. I shared my irritation with Jesus and he removed the white seal as much as he could and sealed it with clear seal. He went above and beyond which is why I will continue to use Black Diamond services.

I have used Black Diamond in the past and was very satisfied with the quality of the work they did. This time I was having appliances delivered. The delivery guys couldn’t put the dishwasher in because thr water valve under my sink was corroded and frozen. I called Black Diamond and they were here within an hour! Jesus, a clean cut knowledgeable young man came in, put a new valve in and installed the dishwasher. Nice work Jesus! I wouldn’t hesitate to call you back!

Long known as a regional stronghold for various Potowatami-speaking tribes, the lands that would eventually become Algonquin were some of the most favored in the Upper Midwest. By the early 19th century, European settlers had discovered the fertile bottomlands of the Fox River Valley and established the village that would become Algonquin. Throughout the settlement’s early history, it served as a trading post and shipping hub for agricultural and industrial interests in north-central and northeastern Illinois. Later, the arrival of the railroad that connected Chicago with various towns to the west ensured the settlement’s survival and briefly turned it into a summer resort for turn-of-the-20th-century Chicagoans. These days, Algonquin is a major shopping hub and commuter town.
Algonquin sits in the central Fox River Valley, a fertile region that contains some of the most productive soils in the Midwest. The town is hemmed in by the valley’s steep bluffs as well as the river’s sharp oxbow-style curves. To the west and north of town, the landscape is characterized by flat or gently rolling corn and bean fields. To the east and south, the bulk of the land has been parceled into attractive suburban developments. Important local thoroughfares include Interstate 90, U.S. Highway 14 and Illinois Highway 31. I-90 and U.S. Highway 14 both traverse the 40 or so miles to the Lake Michigan shore near Chicago.
Population and Demographics
Thanks to its favorable location on the outskirts of Chicagoland’s sprawl, Algonquin has seen rapid population growth over the past several decades. According to the 2010 Census, the city has over 30,000 permanent inhabitants. Although there are very few second homes remaining in the area, Algonquin does see its population increase notably during the summer months. This is primarily the result of its vibrant civic life and cool river breezes. While a fair number of Algonquin residents work in the Loop, plenty of others enjoy shorter commutes to the major office parks in nearby communities like Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg and Elgin.
Things to Do in Algonquin, Illinois
Algonquin is blessed with a full range of cultural and recreational amenities. For folks who love to be outdoors, a nearby section of the massive Grand Illinois Trail offers biking and jogging opportunities for casual users and fitness fanatics alike. Meanwhile, Raging Buffalo Snowboard Ski Park offers one of the only downhill winter sports experiences in the Chicagoland area. For shopping enthusiasts, downtown Algonquin and Algonquin Commons both offer access to high-end shops and stores. In July, the Founder’s Days celebration attracts thousands of folks from across Chicagoland with fireworks, parades and a “civilized” bar crawl.
Climate and Weather
Like much of the rest of northern Illinois, Algonquin has a classic continental climate that’s split evenly between cold winters and warm summers. During the area’s relatively brief transitional seasons, refreshing rains alternate with mild, sunny days that bring residents outdoors. Although snowfall is fairly common throughout the winter, occasional thaws make for pleasant breaks in the weather. During the summer, thunderstorms break the heat at regular intervals and contribute to the region’s fertility. These storms tend to be mild to moderate in intensity and rarely produce tornadoes or serious hail.
